This highly anticipated information in now available on courts.ie
The Courts Service Civil Reform team recently launched the new information for civil restraining orders.
Civil restraining orders are also known as 'Section 28 Orders'. They direct a person to stop engaging in certain unwanted behaviours against another person, for example stalking and harassment.
Previously there was little information available on civil restraining orders nationwide. Our aim was the bridge this gap and develop comprehensive information for civil restraining orders, and to be the single source of truth for civil restraining orders information in the Republic of Ireland.
As part of the Courts Service Modernisation Programme, the Civil Reform team have developed new information for civil restraining orders on Courts.ie.
This work has focused on ensuring the new information is written in plain English and aligned with court rules. While making sure it’s highly accessible and easier to understand for our users.
This helpful new information sets out what a civil restraining order is, who can apply, and the end-to-end steps involved in the court process.
We have engaged with a broad range of court users to develop this information, including Courts Service staff, members of the judiciary, An Garda Síochána, legal practitioners, and advocacy groups.
Our hope is that these new website pages will inform members of the public better, and act as a valuable resource to our staff, the judiciary, An Garda Síochána, legal practitioners, and advocacy groups.
These highly anticipated pages of information are now live in our website's civil restraining orders section
If you have any questions or feedback on the new pages, the Civil Reform team would love to hear from you at CivilReform@courts.ie
